I've uploaded a few Photosynths and panoramas to the Photosynth site now: ICE is very cool and requires much less control when taking the images, can even get away without a tripod.Īlso links to Photosynth, also from Microsoft. Well, ICE has a lower learning curve and should get those guys from Geico. Now, I must admit Microsoft ICE is giving Hugin a run for its money, then again how much can that be if they are both for free. While ICE is great in removing various distortion effects found when the collection of photographs are not properly taken. When it comes to speed Autostitch seems to be the quickest of them all when comparing the same set of photographs for the composite but, it takes some work with a photo editing program. The price is great when comparing it to Autostitch that it is free too. The quality of ICE is excellent when it is done. PTGui was the quickest and Photo Merge the slowest. The time varied as when I compared ICE to Autopano, PTGui, Panorama Factory, and the Photo Merge in Adobe PhotoShop. The twelve composite ranged from seven minutes to twenty-two minutes to compose and the time had nothing to do with the amounts of photographs in each composite in the stitched process. On the twelve compositions I compared there was hardly any difference in the time each composition took, maybe a few seconds in difference. The 64-bit version is on a XP operating system with 8Gigs of memory and the Vista 64- bit operating system has 4Gigs. I'm running the 64-bit and there is a 32-bit program of the same software. I must admit for the price is great, slower than what I expected but, great on the stitching. I am testing the 64-bit Microsoft stitching program called Image Composite Editor (ICE) it is FREE download.
